Hey everybody,

Cool site!

Wasn’t going to start a new thread just for this but, what the heck.

The family and I are fixin to bring the boat and ourselves to Gaston for a week 7-22 through.. Hope to run into some of you while on the lake or at the bar/bars.

The only way I talked the wife into yet another lake vacation was to promise to take a day and drive to the beach for a "day trip". (the baby has never seen the ocean) I realize it’s a 2 or3 hr ride but a man has got to do what a man has got to do..

I was hoping someone could point me out of town to the nearest public beach??

I guess while on the subject of directions, I hear Lizard Creek is good for skiing. Is that so?? We are staying at the mouth of Big Stonehouse. Can anyone tell me of a good spot nearby to ski for an hr or so before breakfast, (6-8AM)???

I think Nags Head is the closet.Count on at least 2.5 hours to get there from Gaston.I know its 3 from Raleigh. The beaches south of Nags Head on The Cape Hatteras National Seashore are sweet.

Lizard Creek is a nice place to ski/wakeboard ecspecially during the week when no one is out. But on the weekends to get calm water you should want to be on the water by 7:30. (depending on where you are)

One of the biggest reasons no one goes to Lizard creek Is it is a small tunnel and most people dont like to take there boats through it. (unless you are Adam F.)

If you are staying at Stone house Timber Lodge you can ski right back there and be fine in the morning. Or head out and around to the right and go down towards Outdoor World. During the week you will be fine right where you are.

Outdoor World serves biscuits as well as having gas. Dont expect too many or any bars on Lake Gaston it is surely lacking there.

I would leave the place you are staying and head towards 95 to I 64. That will take you straight to Nags Head in about three hours from Lake Gaston. Not too bad of a drive though.

I will be down at Gaston from 10-17. I am staying on Pea Hill creek at my folks house. Feel free to hit me up if you want to do some riding (434)577-3293

Adam Fields does lessons on Lizard Creek. He has Black Centurion and is on the right hand side of the cove before you get back to Lizard Creek bridge. Look for the sliders.

Have a great time!

You can look for my boat, a picture should be in my gallery.

Rob

Nags Head sounds cool.. Haven’t been there since before kids.

I guess I may try to sneak up lizard creek at some point during the week. I don’t have a tower so clearance should not be an issue.

Rob, I wont be down till the 22ed. Not sure where the timber lodge is. The place that I will be in is a house called “Endless Summers” www.ihomesdb.com/cgi-l...t=lgrental . I think we would have been thrown out of any “lodge” that we tried, (with the three screamin kids and all).. From what I could tell from the map I was hoping for good early skiing just outside the door.

I think I was reading on another thread about Seafood or a seafood buffet but cant find the thread now. It was an old thread from a year ago.. Does that ring a bell with anyone??

The Ice-cream and carp feedin sound like it will keep the kids occupied for a while.

I appreciate the help.

Yeah Roberts seafood is good for the weekends only! Mordecais in in Littleton or pretty clost to where you are staying.

There is a tournament happenning that weekend and you guys should swing by if you get settled in at a decnt time. It is up near the dam and you can see some good riding later in the afternoon when Outlaws and Advanced riders hit the water.

Kennon House, Pinos Pizza, and The Club are all of Rt 626 on the VA side. Oh, The Club does have a pretty good Seafood Buffet on Wednesday nights. This ir right where my parents live.

Hey Mark, welcome to the site. Good to see another TMC member here. I will be up hanging out at Gaston on the 23rd (Sat) at the tournament. Great show, and they usually have some good clothing WB equip deals too. Definitely something you should think about checking out. There will be a BUNCH of boats ancored out watching the comp. I'll be the Black/White X-Star w/ red bimini (pic in profile) Stop and say Hi if you see me. Have a nice vacation.

Great links thanks!! The Club looks great too!!

The tournament sounds like an outstanding way to start a vacation.

I’ve been thinking about looking for some used WB equipment but don’t yet know enough about it to get what I want. I guess until I know what to do with a board I don’t need anything fancy but am pretty sure I’m not looking for “entry level”.

I’m glad I stopped in to look for help. This vacation is shaping up really well. WB comp on Sat, some chillin and kid stuff, Wed Seafood, more chillin, road trip to Nags Head.

Hope to run into some of you on the water. Cary, I’ll look for you at the comp. I haven’t had a chance t get my gallery on at this site yet but I’ll be in a blue boat.. www.tmcowners.com/phot...;ppuser=12

Thanks again for all your help!!
